At the entrance to the valley are the villages of Niederrasen and
Oberrasen. Further on, the valley is dotted with rich meadows and
farmland, until eventually you reach, in a wide basin, the villages of Anterselva di Sotto (1,135 m) and, after a
short climb, Anterselva di Mezzo (1,250 m).
On the way to the Lake Anterselva, which is located at 1,600m, you cross
Anterselva di Sopra, a scattered settlement
comprised mainly of farms. The villages of Anterselva di Mezzo,
Anterselva di Sotto and Anterselva di Sopra have approximately 1,300
inhabitants.
A short way before the Lake Anterselva is the Biathlon Centre, which hosts the annual
Biathlon World Cup and was also the venue for the World Championship in
2007.
Shortly afterwards you come to the Lake
Anterselva, the third largest lake of the South Tyrol and
approximately 37m deep. Alongside the lake snakes the winding road, only
passable in summer, up to the Stallersattel, which marks the border
crossing to Austria.
The Valley of Anterselva is part of the Rieserferner-Ahrn nature reserve and is
distinguished by unique mountain flora and fauna.
