Sightseeing in the Valley of Anterselva

In Anterselva, you can find numerous churches and chapels that are worth seeing. The Gothic church of St Walburg in Anterselva Niedertal was built in the 15th century and extended in 1952. The Church of Holy Georg in Anterselva di Mezzo, on the other hand, was built in 1798 as the present day baroque church.

In the skilfully panelled room in the Gasthof Bruggerwirt, the portraits of the twelve apostles are represented, and the date of 1823 over the door to the room points to the time of the "Ausmalung". Other distinctive mural paintings are to be found in the "Wegerkeller" in Anterselva di Mezzo, which belongs to the Santeshotel Wegerhof. The "Wegerkeller" was the first hostelry in Anterselva and dates from the year 1696. In 1753, frescoes entitled "death dance" were placed on two walls of the tavern.

Furthermore, on the edge of a glacier of the Rieserferner group in the Valley of Anterselva, significant discoveries were made of clothing from the ancient Iron Age. Today the Rieserferner discoveries are in the South Tyrol Archeology Museum in Bolzano and may be combined with a visit to "Ötzi".

Another special feature of the Valley of Anterselva is the radon-containing mineral water spring in Anterselva Niedertal at Bad Salomonsbrunn which was already mentioned in 15th century border descriptions. The radon contained in the water stimulates organ function and glandular activity through its radiation, and has an analgesic, stimulating and refreshing effect. The spring has been used successfully since the middle of the 16th century, and today baths and treatments with the radon-containing mineral water can be booked at the hotel Bad Salomonsbrunn.
